Vhari at Katathani Phuket: The Brand Concept Behind a Family Wing

Kata Vhari Wing, Katathani Phuket Beach Resort | Kata Noi, Phuket
Vhari is the new family wing of Katathani Phuket Beach Resort on Kata Noi Beach. As a Phuket branding studio, Simplisis created the brand concept and the brand idea behind Vhari: the story and the world the wing is built around. The architects of Studio S.P.Y. x Oriental Studio then carried that idea into the buildings, interiors and spaces that families now move through. The wing began its soft opening between December 2025 and February 2026.
A brand idea that begins with water
In Thai, vhari (วารี) means flowing water. The brand concept takes that meaning as its starting point and imagines the wing as an underwater world: a place of movement, colour and discovery, where a family holiday feels like a journey from the surface into the sea.
In hospitality branding, an idea like this has to do more than name a building. It gives guests, the resort team and every designer involved a shared story to work from, one that can guide how the place looks, how it speaks and how it feels to arrive. For Vhari, that story is about joy, imagination and time spent together as a family.

From brand concept to architecture
Oriental Studio, working as Studio S.P.Y. x Oriental Studio Co., Ltd. on the architecture and interiors, translated the underwater world into space. In their project notes, each zone takes on its own part of the sea:
- Lobby, Ocean Odyssey: a sculptural roof inspired by the blue whale, with curved columns that recall a coral cave.
- All-day dining, Aqua Jungle: an open, airy space with tree-like timber columns and colourful floral elements drawn from underwater plant life.
- Kids' Club, Nautilus Explorer: a perforated white metal skin that filters daylight around a space for learning through play.
- Accommodation, Reef Symphony: curving, layered buildings that take their rhythm from coral reefs.

We are grateful to the Oriental Studio team for the care they brought to this work. Seeing a brand idea become something families can walk through, swim in and remember is a rare kind of collaboration between brand strategy and architecture. Why the idea comes first
A family wing could easily be described by its facilities: water zones, play spaces, larger rooms. A brand concept gives those facilities a reason to belong together. When the idea is clear from the start, architecture, interiors and communication can all draw from the same source, and guests experience one place rather than a list of features.
This is how we approach brand strategy at Simplisis. We begin with meaning, then let it shape what follows. Vhari shows how far a single idea can travel.
